Office Cleaning Checklist: Daily, Weekly and Monthly Tasks

Every task and how often: your team’s daily habits, our every-visit list, and the longer cycles.

An office cleaning checklist lists each task and how often it’s done. Every visit covers desks and screens, the kitchen, bathrooms, bins, glass doors and every floor; windows, carpets and deep cleans run on longer cycles. We’re Withers Solutions, a small Malvern East team cleaning offices within about 25 km. Ring Ryan on 0409 385 707 at any hour, or send the address and what you need. Quotes are free and back the same day.

Daily office cleaning tasks: what your team keeps on top of

Most small offices don’t need a cleaner daily, just a few habits between visits:

  • Run the dishwasher
  • Wipe the kitchen bench after lunch
  • Deal with spills while they’re fresh
  • Take out any bin with food in it before the weekend

Leave the floors, the bathrooms and the dusting to us. Daily cleaning suits the biggest, busiest sites, though one needing cleaners on several shifts a day is too big for a small team. For the right frequency, see how often an office should be cleaned.

Weekly office cleaning checklist: every visit, room by room

The core of regular office cleaning, done in full every visit, weekly or fortnightly. Surfaces first, floors last.

Desks, reception and meeting rooms

  • Desks wiped with the keyboards moved
  • Screens dusted, chairs and touchpoints done
  • Reception counter, waiting chairs and side tables wiped
  • Meeting rooms dusted and wiped

Kitchen

  • Benches wiped and sanitised
  • Sink and microwave cleaned
  • Dishwasher loaded and emptied

Bathrooms

  • Toilets and bathrooms sanitised, including any shower
  • Floors mopped every visit

Glass and touch points

  • Glass doors and partitions cleared of fingermarks
  • Door handles, push plates and light switches

Bins and floors

  • Bins emptied and relined
  • Entry mats vacuumed
  • Every floor vacuumed, stairs included
  • Hard floors mopped after, timber with a damp mop, never a wet one

Monthly tasks: mostly glass

Little in an office is monthly. The exception is some street-level glass.

  • Shopfront glass on a main road, outside, once a month; fortnightly if you sell food or sit on a busy corner

Check it with the sun low: if a visitor would see a film or handprints, it’s due. More in how often commercial windows should be cleaned.

Quarterly and yearly tasks: windows, carpets and a deep clean

  • Outside of upstairs office windows: quarterly is common; on a quiet street, twice a year can be enough
  • Carpet walked on every working day: hot water extraction at least twice a year, after hours so it dries overnight (how we deep clean carpets)
  • A deep clean once or twice a year: behind the furniture, inside the fridge and cupboards, grout, showers and blinds
  • Coated hard floors such as sealed vinyl, as the traffic dictates: a scrub while the sealer is sound, stripped and resealed once it wears through in the walkways

Periodic work is almost always cheaper when it’s added to a regular visit: on a weekly or fortnightly program, add outside window cleaning every third month.

Questions to ask a commercial cleaner before you sign

Ask anyone quoting, us included.

  1. Who does the work, and who do I ring? You want the same faces each visit and one person who answers for the result. With us, it’s the same small team each visit, and you ring Ryan.
  2. Can we see the task list per visit? Ask whether consumables, light fittings and high dusting are on it, and check the frequency column, not just the task column.
  3. Does the price clear the award? Divide the visit price by the hours quoted; no hours is an answer in itself. A rate that couldn’t cover the cleaning award plus super deserves a question. The pricing guide shows the sums.
  4. Are you insured and police checked? Ask for the certificate of currency; it takes thirty seconds to send. We hold $5 million of public liability cover with QBE, and everyone who cleans for us is police checked.
  5. How are our keys and codes kept? We hold them for after-hours work and lock up behind us. Alarm codes are stored encrypted and shown only to the cleaner rostered to your site.
  6. What does it take to change or stop? We have no lock-in contract: change how often we come, pause or stop with reasonable notice.

Office cleaning checklist questions

What should an office cleaning checklist include?

Every task, and how often each one happens. The every-visit core is desks and screens, the kitchen, the bathrooms, the bins, glass doors and every floor. Windows, carpets and deep cleans sit on longer cycles. Without a frequency for each task, a bathroom floor can end up mopped weekly.

Can you work from our own checklist?

Yes. Ryan agrees the list with you before the first visit, so send yours, or start from this one and add or cross things off. Tell him if the bathrooms are shared, or about anything we shouldn’t touch, and we’ll clean around it.

Do we need a deep clean before regular cleaning starts?

Only if the place hasn’t had a proper going-over in a while. Then we’d start with a deep clean and hold it from there. Otherwise the first regular visit simply runs longer, because skirtings, vents and the tops of cupboards get done properly once and only need keeping up after that.

How can I tell if our cleaner is doing a good job?

Look at the place the day before a clean is due. If anything on the list has been missed, tell Ryan and we can come back that week and fix it. If everything is done and it still looks tired, go up a step in frequency.
