Football Club Carpet Cleaning in Melbourne: Before & After at D.W. Lucas Oval

Before and after commercial carpet cleaning in football club function room, Malvern East - brown soiled carpet restored to grey

🏉 Case Study · Floor Care · Malvern East

A footy club pavilion takes more punishment than almost any commercial carpet in Melbourne. Hundreds of boots, wet winter Saturdays, post-match functions and spilt drinks, week after week. This is how the East Malvern Football Netball Club, the Panthers, brought the carpets at their D.W. Lucas Oval pavilion in Malvern East back to life mid-season and had the rooms ready for a club event on 14 July, without disrupting a single training night or function.

The short version: the Panthers came to us mid-season with a firm date to hit and a pavilion three clubs share. We quoted fast and competitively, coordinated access with the City of Stonnington and the club’s co-tenants, then deep cleaned every carpeted area using hot water extraction after hours. Years of tracked-in soil lifted out, the original two-tone grey came back, and the rooms were dry and back in service each morning, comfortably ahead of the 14 July event.

The Challenge

What two footy seasons do to a function room carpet

The pavilion at D.W. Lucas Oval is a beautiful space – a glass-walled function hall looking straight out over the oval, with a timber-clad bar, a separate function room and a dining area beside original parquet flooring. It hosts everything from post-match presentations to community events, and it is a shared home across the year: the Panthers and the East Malvern Knights juniors through winter, the East Malvern Tooronga Cricket Club through summer.

It also sits directly beside a sports ground. Every week of the season, foot traffic carries in mud, dust and moisture. Over time the carpet had turned a uniform brown – so evenly soiled that most people assumed that was its actual colour.

It wasn’t. Under years of tracked-in soil was a modern grey linear-pattern carpet – and proper extraction brought it back.

The Complexity

A mid-season request, a fixed date, and a pavilion three clubs share

This was never a case of booking a date and turning up. The request came mid-season, the pavilion sits on council land, and three clubs use it across the year. Here is what we had to work around, and how it came together.

💰

A competitive quote, quickly

The club needed the job priced properly and moving fast. We quoted free and same day, and the number stacked up against the alternatives.

📅

A mid-season ask

The request landed in the middle of the footy season, with the pavilion in constant use for training, match days and functions.

🎯

A hard date: 14 July

The rooms had to be presentable for a club event on 14 July. We scheduled backwards from that date and finished ahead of it.

🏛️

Coordinating with council

The pavilion is a City of Stonnington facility, so access and approvals ran through the council. They were genuinely helpful throughout.

🤝

Three tenant clubs, one calendar

Winter belongs to the Panthers and the East Malvern Knights, one of the largest junior clubs in the country. Summer belongs to the East Malvern Tooronga Cricket Club. Every club kept its calendar.

Our Process

After-hours hot water extraction, step by step

We followed the same process we use on every commercial carpet job, scaled up for a venue of this size. If you want the full detail, we’ve written a complete 7-step commercial carpet deep cleaning guide – the short version:

1

HEPA vacuuming

Every carpeted area, to pull out the dry soil first

2

Pre-spray

Breaks down embedded grease and grime, with proper dwell time

3

Agitation

Lifts the pile and loosens years of compacted soil

4

Hot water extraction

Commercial equipment, overlapping passes across every metre

5

Dry passes + air movers

Rooms dry and back in service by morning

The dining walkway beside the original parquet – traffic lanes gone

The Result

The original grey carpet back, with zero disruption

The photos tell the story better than we can. The carpet went from a flat, tired brown to its original two-tone grey – in the main hall, the function room, the dining walkway and the entries. The whole job was done after hours and the rooms were dry and back in service each morning. No closures, no disruption to training or functions.

Years

Of soil lifted out

For community clubs like these, this matters beyond appearances. Clean carpet means better air quality in a space kids and families use every week, a function room the clubs can hire out with confidence, and carpet that will last years longer before needing replacement – a five-figure saving for volunteer-run organisations.

FAQs

Football club carpet cleaning FAQs

How often should a sports club pavilion have carpets deep cleaned?

For venues beside a sports ground, we recommend a professional deep clean at least once a season – ideally just before finals or the club’s peak function period. High-traffic entries and bar areas may benefit from an interim clean mid-season.

Can you clean around club functions and training?

Yes. We do almost all venue work after hours, and rooms are dry and back in use by morning. There’s no interruption to training, match days or functions.

How much does club or venue carpet cleaning cost in Melbourne?

It depends on carpeted area and soiling level. We quote free, same-day, and we’re upfront about what’s achievable. Call 0409 385 707 or request a quote online.
